Night Fishing

A  Digital Index of Postmodern Literature

(Pablo Picasso, "Night Fishing at Antibes," 1939, as featured in William Gaddis's The Recognitions

What This Website Is for:

There are a lot of separate, individual author websites (like Spermatikos Logos and The Howling Fantods), but I thought it would be helpful to have a central repository or masterlist with links to all of those different websites, contextualizing them within postmodernism as a larger literary movement. Having news about conventions & current events in the one place in particular seems like it would academic life easier for a lot of us.

Another problem is that Wikipedia (in my opinion) plays fast and loose with what they define as "postmodern" and are also missing some notable people who seem to me to be working in the postmodern tradition (e.g. Renata Adler, Colson Whitehead, Donald Antrim, John Edgar Wideman, Denis Johnson, Jennifer Egan, etc. etc.), so I thought having a more curated index would be useful to others as well.

I imagine this page will just be eternally undergoing updates/revisions, so please do email me links, news, etc. that might be valuable for this project: jaessharpe@gmail.com or jaes@mail.ubc.ca.
